IG BUSINESS www.insidegolf.com.au | April 2017 21 www.insidegolf.com.au/golf-industry-news FROM July 1, Lakelands Golf Club on the Gold Coast will be a fully user- pays public access golf facility. The owners, Japanese dessert manufacturer Chateraise Holdings, recently informed the members of the move. It means there will be more tee times available to golfers to play the Jack Nicklaus-designed signature golf course, especially on weekends. Lakelands Golf Club has set its midweek and weekends green fees at $115 and $135, including cart, respectively. There will be a reduced rate for groups of four or more players – expected to be $100 per player. Personalised group and corporate packages will also be available. Lakelands is a wonderful layout and one of the joys of playing golf there is it’s not a taxing head-to-head battle where you have to pit your wits against the course designer – Jack Nicklaus. It’s more a gentle stroll, or golf cart ride, on the golf course that is more pleasant and challenging than punishing. “It’s a resort-style golf course that is friendly and inviting, but also challenging,” said golf operations manager Rowan Beste. “ With generous fairways, the tee shots aren’t too demanding so the golf course is perfect for golfers of all levels. “ That’s why Lakelands is so well received.” In the design, Nicklaus provided five tee-box options so that players of varying skills can choose their own examination. From the black tees, the course stretches to 6489 metres and eases down to 4685m off the yellow tees. It’s 6142m off the blue, 5814m off the white and 5334m off the red tees. Meanwhile, Lakelands Golf Club, located at 100 Lakelands Drive (off Gooding Drive) at Merrimac, remains a popular wedding and function venue and last year was voted number one setting for such events on the Gold Coast. CHANGE OF COURSE: Lakelands Golf Club is going in a new direction.
